Vue du château de Bresse sur Grosne

History

photo du château de Bresse sur Grosne en 1920

The origin of the chateau is unknown, but a letter of the pope Alexandre III dated from 1180 already mentioned it. It was bequeathed to Claudine-Marguerite Chiquet in 1799 who, by marriage with Sanctimonious Rose, brought it to the family of MURARD to which it still belongs to.

The chateau consists of a central body and two wings. A partially visible ditch, surrounded the chateau. The conserved parts are dated from the XIVth ( the Donjon), XVIème-XVIIth and in the XIXth the chateau was restored by SANSON.

In the east, extend important dependences with wine-producing facilities built in XVIIth centuries by the monks of the abbey of LA FERTE. The village was demolished after successive repurchases during the XIXth and reconstructed in its current location to let space to the actual park.

The chapel of the XIIth was amputated of its nef and restored around 1860 in neo-Lombard style. What remains consists of the cross of the transept, surmounted by a tower-bell tower with two levels. The stained glasses (by DIDRON) were brought back, as well as the hall and the semicircular apse. This chapel was as parochial church which was located in front of the chateau.
