The washhouse or the fountain, is a place social éminament in every village. It is the place or the women met themselves once a month then a week and or we exchanged all the last news of the village to see of the region.
It is about collective buildings or we washed the linen. In this time an increasing need of hygiene is felt, and the state encourages or builds laundries in particular after the epidemic of cholera of 1849. Generally every village counts one or two, or more. They are public or sometimes deprived in the surrounding wall of the chateau and were the object of a toll.
The laundry needs water; a source of a river, often partially low of a village is thus built. And rather close to avoid big movements to the washerwomen in charge of linen basket.
The municipalities took the advices of an architect, some are moreover of true leader of work, the others are simpler.
